More than a vision Exam
All regular examinations include an opthalmoscopy. This procedure
allows the doctor to examine the internal structures of the eye. In
addition to cataracts and glaucoma, many systemic diseases such as
hypertension and diabetes show up here.
Interior View of the Eye
The optic nerve, vessels and other internal tissues of the eye are
evaluated during your eye health examination. We also perform a
painless procedure called tonometry to measure the pressure inside your
eye or intraocular pressure (IOP). This common procedure is important
in the detection of glaucoma.
Our Professional Eyecare Services include. . .
Visual Examination
The part of an eye examination most people relate to is the visual
examination or refraction. While this is only one phase of your
examination, it's certainly an important one. Using the most advanced
equipment, we will do a series of lens exams to determine if you need
glasses or contact lenses to improve your vision. It will be important
for us to know if you are having any problems and how you use your eyes
for work, school, hobbies and sports. If you need a correction, not
only can we make you see better, in many cases we can enhance your
academic, occupational or recreational performance.
Regular Eye Care: The Secret To Preserving Your Sight
The most important thing you can do to preserve your eyesight is to
visit your eye doctor for regular checkups. Like the rest of your body,
your eyes will change gradually as you age. However, unlike the rest of
your body, your eyes rarely hurt if something is wrong. We'll
advise you when it's your time to be checked again. So, don't rely on
broken glasses or lost contact lenses to remind you of your next
appointment. Follow the advice of experts; have your eyes examined on a
regular basis.
Eyeglasses
As part of our eyecare service, we offer a complete selection of high
quality eyewear. Our professional staff is trained to help you select
frames that look good, fit properly and are compatible with your lens
prescription. We want you to have glasses you are proud of and enjoy
wearing.
Contact Lenses
Millions of people have chosen contact lenses as an alternative to
eyeglasses. A variety of new contacts in both soft and oxygen permeable
lenses are available for nearsightedness, farsightedness and
astigmatism, as well as for bifocal and multifocal corrections. We
provide complete professional care from the initial evaluation to
follow-up visits after you receive your lenses.
Some Common Eye Problems Are:
Nearsightedness (Myopia)
Type of vision in which seeing at far is blurry, although near vision may be good.
Farsightedness (Hyperopia)
Type of vision in which seeing at near is strained. Distance vision is often clear.
Astigmatism
Distorted or blurred focus caused by irregular shape of cornea or lens.
Presbyopia
A reduction of near focusing ability usually beginning in the late 30's or early 40's.
Amblyopia
Condition in which one eye cannot see 20/20 even with the best correction.
Eye Teaming (Binocularity)
Process in which both eyes work together to form one image in the brain.
Cataracts
A cloudiness of the crystalline lens of the eye resulting in reduced vision.
Glaucoma
A condition leading to blindness caused by a painless increase of pressure within the eye.
Macular Degeneration
A degeneration of the central portion of the retina (macula)
which is responsible for straight-on vision used in driving, reading,
perceiving colors, and recognizing faces. Macular degeneration is the
most common cause of blindness in people over 50 years of age.
